Ceph Pi - Form Factor

This post is rather short.  The video below shows the final form factor of the initial CephPi cluster. We are now ready to jump into the actual Ceph Install on Raspberry Pi.  (spoiler - it worked!).

To make up for the short post - here is a brief preview of what we are about to do.

  • Install Ceph on Raspberry Pi
    • The cluster will consist of 3 Pis with Pi1 running Mon and an OSD, Pi2 running just an OSD and Pi3 running an OSD, but also being a ceph-client.
  • Get throughput and other performance measurements with SevOne
  • Add an oDroid (ARM 2 Ghz w/ 2 GB of RAM ) to the mix
    • Move the Mon process to the oDroid
      • Get more measurements
    • Move the ceph-client process to the oDroid
      • Get more measurements
  • Add Intel NUC ( ultra small form factor Intel i5 beefcake - especially compared to everything else) to the mix.
    • Move the ceph-client process to the NUC
      • Get more measurements
    • Move the Mon process to the NUC
      • Get more measurements
  • Recap and go over the final design for my Ceph-deployment.  Also hopefully do more tests upon user request.  So - the few, the brave, the geeky, you who are actually following this, don't hesitate to post questions and make testing requests.
